The Facts about STD's
Most people don't believe they are at risk for a sexually transmitted disease. The truth is, in 2015, there were 65 cases of Chlamydia, one case of Gonorrhea, and one case of Syphilis treated in Yates County.
One in two sexually active young people will get a sexually transmitted disease (STD) by the age of twenty-five. The good news is that most STD's are curable and all are treatable. To learn more about STD's visit: http://www.cdc.gov/std/prevention/default.htm.
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection. According to the CDC about 14 million new infections occur each year. The HPV virus causes genital warts, cervical cancer, and oropharyngeal cancer. Women bewtwen the ages of 21 and 65 should be screened for HPV infection. HPV vaccine is available for both boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 26. Please contact your medical provider or Yates County Public Health for more information.
