Education
Chief Dispatcher Sandra Smith began her career with Yates County in 1989 as a part time Fire and EMS dispatcher. In 1990 she earned an Associates Degree in Business Management. In 1991 she began her full time career as an Emergency Services Dispatcher. She was promoted to the position of Senior Emergency Services Dispatcher in 2001, and then Chief Dispatcher in 2002.

She has successfully completed many schools including: an 80 hour Telecommunicators school, a 40 hour Association of Professional Communications Officers (APCO) emergency dispatcher course, an 80 hour Instructor Development school, Internal Affairs Investigation course, Introduction to Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) technology, Performance Evaluation and Operations Assessment, among others courses. She is the E-Justice and NYSPIN Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) for the Sheriff’s Office. She is a member of the Yates County 911 Advisory Board and has worked on several committees, such as the “False Alarm Reduction” committee and the Closest Car concept committee between the County and State Police.

Residence
As a life long resident of Yates County, she currently resides in Dundee, New York.
