Key Responsibilities

The Board of Elections is a separate entity governed by the State of New York and funded through the County Government. The purpose of the board is to maintain current and accurate voter records, and to provide information and materials necessary for voters to exercise their right to vote and to run for elected office. It is the duty of the Commissioners to report the election results to the members of the news media and all other interested citizens. Election return headquarters are set up on election evening in order to provide timely and accurate unofficial results.
