Child
Protective Services (CPS) are available 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. If you suspect a child is being maltreated or abused by a
caregiver you can report this to the authorities by calling
1-800-342-3720. This is the State Central Registry.
When you
call you need to be able to tell the registry the names and addresses
of the family members. If you are witnessing a crime against a
child then first call your local law enforcement, who will
respond immediately to the call form the State Central Registry.
Once the
State Central Registry accepts the reports, it will be electronically
transmitted to the Child Protective Unit at Yates County Department of
Social Services. There is often a two to three hour delay in this
transmission. Once the report is received the investigation is stared
by one of the Yates County CPS caseworkers.
