LOOMIS CEMETERY: Notes

This is a small neighborhood burying ground that appears to have served several families who owned farms close by. The Loomis family erected an iron fence around their plot, and within it is the oldest remaining burial, that of Nathaniel Barnes.

The cemetery is in an undeveloped lot within a subdivision inaccessible from the highway except along a private road. The burying ground is neglected and has been unmaintained for many years, though it stands unmolested in its grove of old oak trees. Most of the stones have now fallen, and some that were read within the last 20 years now seem to be missing. It is evident from the ground that there are some now-unmarked burials.

The plot is often called the Bassett Cemetery.
