HERRICK CEMETERY : Notes

Herrick Cemetery is the only old cemetery associated with the community once known as Bluff Point. It is now abandoned, and despite some efforts by local groups to clean it, it was for a long time unmaintained and quite overgrown. At this writing (2009) it is being cleaned and maintained by a descendant of the Herrick family; he has even erected a sign. It is visible from the highway and about 50 yards distant across an open field.

There does not appear to have been much damage from vandalism, but most of the stones have toppled and some are broken. It’s clear that many are missing, or were perhaps never marked.

The site is often called the Heck cemetery from the name of a long-time owner of the farm that surrounds it.
