Married
- At the home of the Bride, Aug 5, by Rev. David Magie,
Prof. E.G. Folsom at the Albany Commercial College, and Miss Eva Bruen of Penn Yan.
Mr. Philemon Prindle, formerly of this place, died
at West Chazy, Jefferson Co., on the 26th
ult., at the age of 62.
Mr. Robert Henry, one of the pioneers of the Seneca lake
country…died at North Hector on Monday morning of last week, at the advanced
age of 80 years….
Died in Dundee Tuesday morning, August 11th,
Wm H. Sawyer, aged 44 years. Mr. Sawyer was a native of Starkey…. About 10 years
since he married the eldest daughter of Hon. Jas. Huntington. He leaves but
one child, an infant namesake of three months….
Amasa Holden, an old veteran of the war of 1812,
died at his residence in this village on Monday, the 10th instant,
at about 10 o’clock, at the advanced
age of 93 years…. He served with honor as a fife major during the war of 1812….
He was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts
the year before the Declaration of Independence, and was therefore born a subject
of Great Britain.
He was for fifty years a resident of Penn Yan, and during the later years of
his life was an inmate of the family of his son, Charles Holden.

Died in Waterloo, Iowa,
August 6, 1868, Maggie A.,
daughter of Joseph and Susan A. Jones, aged six months.
John Corcoran, an old resident of Corning,
was murdered in that village on Tuesday night last, by a German named Goodheart.
Benjamin Franklin, Esq., of Winona, Minnesota,
formerly of Havana, Schuyler county,
died on Tuesday, the 11th instant, at his home in Minnesota.
He was a brother of Judge Franklin of Ovid….
Died in this village on Monday morning the 17th inst., Lydia A.,
daughter of Hon. Ezekiel Casner, in the 29th
year of her age.

- In Benton, Aug.
22, 1868, Gusta E., wife of Robert Briggs and daughter of Wm. Best,
aged 22 years and six months.
J.M. Hamlin was found dead in his son’s garden at Almond, Allegany county.
We have just received the painful announcement of the death by drowning of
little Willie Squier, only son of the late Wm. D.
Squier, of this place. As we are informed, the deceased
had been playing near the lake at Branchport Tuesday afternoon and in some way
accidentally fell in and was drowned….

Francis Granger, a distinguished citizen of Canandaigua, and one of the old
politicians of the Whig school, died last Friday, the 28th of August,
at the advanced age of nearly 82 years…. He served in the Legislature and in
Congress, and was a prominent leader in the Whig party until the Anti-Slavery
agitation divided its ranks….

- At Benton Center Sept. 6th,
by Rev. A.C. Mallory, Mr. Charles Hall of Seneca, and Hiss Hellen
R. Simmons of Gorham.
Mr. Wm. Westcott, youngest brother of the editor of the Dundee Record, died
at Rochester on the morning of the
24th of August.
Simeon Benjamin, one of the oldest and best citizens of Elmira,
died a few days since, at an advanced age. Mr. Benjamin was one of the most
energetic supporters of the construction of the Canandaigua and Elmira Railroad.

Our obituary notices recorded the death at an advanced age of Jarvis Raymond,
who for about eight years past has lived quietly among our people…. Previous
to his removal to Detroit he had
spent some years at Ypsilanti, but
the best portion of his life was spent at Lima,
N.Y…. He leaves as the inheritors of his good name three sons, of whom the eldest
is Henry J. Raymond of the New York Times. The other two are S.B. Raymond
of Rochester N.Y.,
and James F. Raymond of this city. All of them were with him when he died. His
aged wife also survives. The remains will be removed to Rochester
for interment.—Detroit Post

N.Y.
- On Tuesday evening, Sept 8th, at the residence of the bride’s
father, by Rev. D. Taylor of Truxton N.Y., William
H. Godfrey of New York City, to Mrs. D. Suydam of
Penn Yan.
John S. Swarthout, residing in the first election
district of the Town of Hector, Schuyler county, committed suicide by hanging
himself in his own barn, between the hours of 10 and 11 a.m., on the 4th
instant.

- On Thursday evening, Sept 10th, at the residence of the Bride’s
father, by the Rev. D. Magie, Irving Shanks of Canandaigua,
to Sophia R. Long of Penn Yan.
Died in Syracuse on the 18th
instant, Bertie, only child of Walter H. and Mary Booth, aged six months.
Mrs. Cooley died in the village on Thursday last, after a lingering illness
of consumption. She was a sister of the late Eli Sheldon….
An old resident of Yates county, and the last member of the old Lee family,
James Lee, died at Milo Center at the residence of Robert Roberts, on Monday
morning last, about three o’clock….
Miss Mary Miller, daughter of Jefferson Miller of Milo, whom we mentioned in
a previous issue as being seriously injured by a fall at Dresden while picking
cherries in the latter part of July, was conveyed to her home on Friday last,
where she goes to die, all hope of her recovery having been given up….
Mr. Luther Steward, of Howard, Steuben county, a young
man twenty-six years of age who had been an invalid for some five years, arrived
at Crystal Spring
last evening (Sept 10)….This morning he arose and walked to the spring…remained
there a short time and walked back to the hotel. He was seized with a fit of
coughing…carried into the house…and died in a few minutes. His mother and aunt
were present to witness the sad event.—Dundee Expositor
On Thursday of last week Capt. Jonathan Spencer, residing near Milo
Center, while in the woods chopping,
was stung by a bee at the back of his neck…. Medical assistance was procured,
and we learn that Mr. Spencer has been rendered comfortable, although still
in a critical condition.

Wm. Hess of Bath committed suicide
last week by taking morphine. He had lately been a patient in the Inebriate
Asylum at Binghamton.
Capt. Spencer…whom we mentioned last week as having been stung by a bee, died
on Sunday morning last at 8 o’clock, from the effects of the poison…. He was
an old gentleman – 77 years of age – and much respected.

by Rev. J. W. Putnam, Mr. George S. Bell and Miss Susan Dunning.
Died
- In Milo, September 30, of apoplexy, Margaret, widow
of the late Gilbert D. Baker, in the 81st year of her age.
- At the residence of his son in law, Mr. Robert Roberts, at Milo
Center on Monday, September 21, 1868, Mr. James Lee,
aged 85 years.

The Des Moines (Iowa)
papers mention the death, by consumption, of Mrs. Seneca C. Goodwin, formerly
of Milo, residing for some years at the foot of Keuka
lake.
We are pained to learn of the death of Miss Emily Spencer, sister of N.B. Spencer,
late of the Penn Yan Democrat, which occurred in Galva,
Illinois, on Saturday afternoon last…. She
died at the home of her uncle, Mr. Ford….
Mrs. Potter, the wife of Samuel Potter, Esq., died at this place on Friday,
about 12 o’clock m.,…

Howell Cobb, who was Buchanan’s Secretary of the Treasury and a leading rebel,
died very suddenly in New York last Friday.

- At the residence of the officiating clergyman, Rev. Mr. Hudson, on the 8th
instant, Mr. Henry L. Griswold of Naples and Miss Mattie Durham of Branchport.
Died In Penn Yan Oct. 2, 1868, Mrs. Mary A. Potter, wife
of Samuel J. Potter, Esq., aged 59 years.

Rev. Telfair Hodgson, S.H. Slaught of Watkins N.Y.,
and Louise, daughter of the late Eli Botsford of Keyport.
At the residence of the officiating clergyman, by Rev. Mr. Hudson Oct. 5th, 1868, Mr.
Henry L. Griswold of Naples, and Miss Nettie Durham of Branchport.

- In Huron City, Michigan, Oct. 7th, 1868, Mrs. Amanda J. Hubbard, wife of Langdon
Hubbard and daughter of David and Harriet Lester of Penn Yan, aged 28 years.
Mr. William H. Watson of this village was married
on the 17th instant at Geneva, to Mrs.
Rallie A. Van Tuyl, daughter of of W.F. Leaman, Esq., of Geneva.
Wm T. Reeder, formerly Sheriff of Chemung county
and for many years proprietor of Haight’s Hotel, Elmira,
died on Tuesday night of week before last.
The wife of our young friend A. Tiffany Norton, editor of the Livingston
Republican, died at Geneseo on Friday last. She
had been an invalid for two years past….—Rochester Chronicle
Miss Mary Miller, who was not long since carried home in a helpless condition
resulting from injuries received in a fall at Dresden, is, we are happy to learn,
in a fair way to recover….D.
Died in Penn Yan, October 19, 1868, Daniel Sanford, aged 69 years and five
days….The deceased was born in Newtown, Conn., and came to the town of Jerusalem
in this county 44 years ago, and moved to Penn Yan 14 years later….

Miss Malvinia Stearns, of the same town.
- In Penn Yan, Oct. 21st, by Rev. David Magie, Mr. Joseph Wolf and Miss
Margaret Simonds,
daughter of Elijah Simonds, all of Milo.
Died in this village on Thursday evening, October 22d, Abner Bridgman, aged 68 years. Mr
Bridgman had been for about 50 years a resident of
Penn Yan…. He was a native of Massachusetts….
