Mrs. Anne Sutphin, widow of the late John Sutphin, died in Dundee April 22d, at the age of 72 years….

Mrs. Mary Warner died in Reading at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. H.L. Lee, on the 20th ult., in the 80th year of her age. Mrs. Warner was the wife of John Warner, one of the earliest physicians at Eddytown, and the mother of Mr. D.D. Warner of Starkey. Her husband died about twenty years ago. She belonged to the family of DeWitts, one of whom was formerly Surveyor General of the State.

B. Davis Noxon, Sr., was killed at the freight yards in Syracuse, Thursday afternoon, by a freight train. He was eighty years of age, and one of the oldest lawyers and most prominent public men in Central New York.

Mr. Peter Yawger, an old and highly respected resident of Union Springs, died on Wednesday of last week. He had twice represented the county of Cayuga in the Assembly and was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1846. His age was 82 years.

Moses Hatfield died at Rock Stream of apoplexy on the 10th inst., in the 65th year of his age. He had lived 54 years at that place. He married a daughter of Dr. John Warner, the earliest physician in Starkey.

Geo. C. Gardner, son of Rev. C. M. Gardner of the M. E. Church, Mt. Morris, was killed by the cars at Belvidere on Friday of last week. He was fireman on the train that came in collision with another…. Gardner was 23 years old…. Rev. C. M. Gardner was formerly pastor of the Methodist Church at Dundee.

Mrs. Sally Fisk Granger, mother of the late Hon. Stephen A. Douglas, died last Sunday at her residence in Clifton Springs, of heart disease, in the 81st year of her age.

Oliver Priest, of Milo, a man of 70 or more years of age, was suddenly killed on the 26th ult., by a runaway colt, by being thrown from a wagon. He was an old resident of the town, and a very respectable man.

Duncan S. Magee of Watkins died at Wiesbaden, Germany, on the 8th of May, at the age of 37 years and 6 months…. He was a son of the late Hon. John Magee, and was a young man of superior ability and many noble qualities.

Married on Tuesday evening last, at the residence of the bride’s parents, by Rev. David Magie, Mr. Ephraim W. Mills (formerly of Oneida county) and Miss Hattie L. Porter, daughter of Deacon Wm. L. Porter, all of this village….

Yesterday afternoon, at Sparta, [Wisconsin] about two hundred members of the Masonic Fraternity, with a vast concourse of other friends and citizens generally, attended the funeral of C.C. Gage, who died in Sparta on the 28th ult…. Charles Carroll Gage…was a son of Martin Gage, born at Bellona in the year 1828…. He was a brother of the late Captain Darwin Gage, of Geneva, who was killed in the war of the rebellion. He left—of immediate family relatives—beside his aged mother, one sister, Mrs. S.M. Whitaker of Bethel, and three brothers, DeWitt C. Gage of East Saginaw, Mich., Dr. M.R. Gage of Sparta, Wisconsin, and Webster Gage of California….

Died in San Francisco, Cal., on the 25th ult., Samuel J. Hopkins, Esq., aged 61 years. Mr. H. resided in this village some ten years, leaving for California in 1852. He died of acute pneumonia. He was a brother-in-law of Mr. Leander Reddy….

Died in Penn Yan, May 31st, 1869, Freddie L. Henry, youngest son of Isaac and Eliza Henry, aged 2 years….

  • In Torrey, June 8, 1869, by Rev. Thos. Tousey, Mr. Theodore Barber of Potter to Miss Louisa C. Legg, youngest daughter of Mr. Moses A. Legg, of Torrey.

Died

  • In Starkey, on the 2d inst., of apoplexy, Mr. Lyman Johnson, for many years a resident of Starkey, aged 63 years.

  • In Penn Yan, June 1, 1869, Willie A., infant son of Alfred and Elizabeth Vreeland, aged 1 year and 7 months….

Died at Williamsport, Pa., June 1st, of consumption, Anna L., wife of C.D. Crank, aged 24 years.

Married at the residence of the bride’s father in Penn Yan, Wednesday the 16th inst., by Rev. D. Magie, Mr. H.A. Hicks and Miss Lucy O’Brien, youngest daughter of John O’Brien, Esq….

  • At the residence of the bride’s father in Jerusalem, June 16th, 1869, by Rev. C. Dillenbeck, Miss Selina G. Abbott to Mr. Sherman Williams, all of Jerusalem.

Bartleson Shearman states that the first brick made in the County of Yates were made in the brick yard of Benajah Botsford, on what is now called the Street farm near Yatesville.

Died in Penn Yan, May 28th, 1869, little Freddie A., infant son of Ezra B. and Mary K. Havens, aged 11 months, 2 weeks and 2 days….

Calvin Huson died at his residence in Dundee on the 8th inst., at the age of 75 years.—Mr. Huson was the father of Calvin Huson, Jr., late of Rochester N.Y., who was captured by the rebels at the first battle of Bull Run, and died in their prison at Richmond, Va. He was a soldier in the war of 1812…. He was one of the early settlers in Starkey, where he first settled about half a century ago, upon the farm now occupied by Nelson Holden. He removed from there to Seneca, Ontario Co., and resided in Seneca many years, then sold out and returned to Starkey, owning and living for a long time upon the farm formerly owned by his father, the late Nathaniel Huson, near Dundee; this farm he sold about two months ago and moved into that village….

Died in Benton on the 17th inst., at the residence of her son Stephen Briggs, Mrs. Priscilla, widow of Peleg Briggs, Esq., aged 84 years. Mrs. Briggs was born in Old Middlebury, Mass. She was a daughter of William Hall, who emigrated to this country with his family about the year 1808. Her father settled in Benton, on the farm now owned by Robert J. Hall, his grandson, and lived there about forty years and until his death. She was married to Peleg Briggs in 1810, who very soon after settled on the farm now owned and occupied by their two sons Mr. Edward R. Briggs and Mr. Stephen Briggs in Benton, and lived on that farm until his death in the year 1840, and Mrs. Briggs his widow continued to live on the same farm until her death…. She was the mother of four children, two of whom died in infancy. Her only daughter, Hannah, who has long since gone to her rest, was the beloved first wife of Mr. Stephen N. Davis. The two sons Edward R. and Stephen are the only surviving members of the family of Peleg Briggs, Esq., who was an old and much respected inhabitant of Benton, and who came to this country from Rhode Island with his parents, Peleg Briggs and wife, followers of the Friend, when they came to dwell in the county as early as 1789.
