Richard Flagg Thomas was born 18 Dec 1828 in Potter, then moved to Sacramento, but one of his sons Frank henry Thomas was born in Yates, 12 July 1872. he died in Sacramento. We have wondered why he was born in Yates when the family had moved to CA.

Martha married Samuel Dean 4 March 1821.

McCann and resided in Jerusalem, Yates Co. from 1846 until his death 8 Jun 1881 in Penn Yan. He is buried in Lakeview Cemetery there. He was a carpenter and postmaster at Bluff Point 28 Feb 1851 until 31 Jun 1853. One possible father is Hiram Bishop, resident of Bradford, then Tyrone NY, where he died.

She had at least two sisters, H Tuthill b abt 1810 who m in 1839 a Mr Atwater, and M Tuthill. The children of Albert and Elizabeth Tuthill Potter were Julia, b abt 1845, who m in TX W.H. Monroe; Harriet Louise, who m (1) Hurst Dowland, (2) Sidney B. Smith of NY and (3) Nicholas Dountry; Fannie Alpha, who m in 1866 John Arthur McCormick; and Leroy Stephen, who d 1874. I would like to know Elizabeth's parents, and to find any descendants of the Potters.

They were the parents of 11 children. According to Cleveland's History of yates County, "Anna Spencer married Nathaniel Frisbie and they resided in Benton. Their children were Phillip, Sophronia, James, Laura and Martin." I have other evidence to suggest that Laura was Henrietta Laura Frisbie and may have married someone named Pelton, and that Sophronia married Levi William Powell. I am looking for information on Edwin E. Coryell, also known as Edward. He lived in Barrington from about 1845 to sometime after 1865. He had three children: Laura, Phebe and Edward Jr. Edwin served in the 126th NY Volunteers during the Civil War. He was born in Seneca County about 1834. He had a brother named Joseph, also born in Seneca County, about 1831. Joseph married Sarah A. Spink of Starkey and in 1854 moved to Wellsville OH.

I am looking for information concerning John W Brown born about 1810 in NY. He was the son of John Wesley and Mary (Barnes) Brown and married Elizabeth Adaline Meeker, born about 1812 in NY or NJ. She may have been the daughter of Luther and Elizabeth (Townley) Meeker. John W and Adaline appeared on the 1850 and 1860 census in Benton, Yates County. Known children were Willliam, Charles, Adaline, Mary, Townley, Charles, Elizabeth, Didamia and John C Brown. This Brown family is missing from the 1855 census of Yates County. Faily stories give the reason that the family went to Texas for a visit. Adaline is not listed on the 1860. The Meeker family is traced back to NJ and CT, but nothing is known about the Townley family. I have information to share with anyone. Earlene Bale

Caleb and Olive Stephenson lived in Barrington, Yates County in the 1820s and 1830s, before moving to Naples, Ontario County. Caleb was born in Springfield, Massachusetts; Olive was probably born in Connecticut, but I do not know anything of her origins. Would like to correspond with other researchers. Am looking for parents of Truman and Maria (----) Merritt. Probably lived in Yates County from about 1830 and left for Chickasaw County, Iowa sometime between 1845 and 1850. Truman and Maria were probably married somewhere around 1839/1840. Can someone share death dates for John Russell Townsend b about 1785 and his wife Abigail Mead b about 1793? We know she was alive and living in the town of Benton in Yates County from an 1843 land sale in Cayuga County NY. It appears her husband was already deceased. Seeking information on parentage and ancestors of Delmount Campbell, born about 30 August 1796 in NY. He is listed in the town of Milo on the1825 and 1830 census. He was married about 1824 to Permelia Bennett (born about 1794, daughter of Thomas and Polly Bennett) in Yates County. Delmount and Permelia had four children: Esther (b 20 June 1825); James (b Sept 1830); Eleanor (b 31 March 1832); and Martha (b about 1834). I believe all were b Yates County. The family probably moved in the 1840s to Illinois. I have not found them on an 1840 census yet. I have quite a bit of information on the family after their move to Illinois. Delmount was my great great grandfather. Any leads would be a great help. Would be happy to share information. Loren Carlson

I am searching for information on the Dickson/Dixon family. I believe that Thomas Dickson, listed on the 1810 census in Benton, is my ancestor. The Thomas Dickson/Dixon I am researching was married to Rebecca Hotchkiss. They had 12 childre, 10 boys and 2 girls. They moved to NY from the Philadelphia area.
