The Yates County DMV is now scheduling in-person appointments for Yates County Residents only. These appointments will be for all types of license transactions including but not limited to, renewals, reciprocities (people coming from another state to obtain a NYS license), EDL’s and REAL ID’s and all classes of permits. All expired licenses will be a priority.
All other transactions such as registrations, plate surrenders, boats, trailers, ATV’s and enforcement fines (suspension termination, civil penalties, DRA’s) will still be accepted from the drop-box or through the mail. Instructions and forms are located in folders next to the drop-box.
Appointments will be scheduled Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. The telephone number to schedule an appointment is 315-536-5122. Please leave a message with your telephone number so that we may return your call. All documents must be completed prior to coming into the office. We will allow two (2) customers in the office at a time and only the customer with the appointment will be allowed in the office. Customers will be required to wear a mask during the appointment and must first check-in at the desk in the county office building lobby.
Please call (315) 536-5122 to schedule an appointment and for any additional information.
We thank you for your patience and understanding.
REAL ID is Here!
Beginning on October 1, 2020, the federal government will require your driver license, permit or ID card to be REAL ID compliant if you wish to use it as identification to board a domestic flight (within the U.S.), or enter military bases and certain federal facilities. You may also use an Enhanced driver license, permit, or non-driver ID or valid U.S. Passport or other identification acceptable to the federal government.
Please click here for more REAL ID information.
Keep Your Tax Dollars Local
Get your registration back faster and keep your tax dollars local. Yates County keeps 12.7% of your registration and license renewal fees paid when processed locally, but gets nothing if you mail it back to the State or renew online.
Residents are encouraged to renew vehicle registrations and drivers' licenses locally. This can be done either in person, by local mail or by using the convenient drop-box located just outside the DMV Office's main entrance.
Registrations mailed directly to Utica or Albany using the bar-coded envelopes included with the registration/license renewal notice, do not reimburse Yates County for any portion of the fee paid.
Keep your dollars working for Yates County!
