Isolation & Quarantine Orders

COVID 19 Updated Isolation & Quarantine – As of 4/30/2022

New York State has implemented significant changes in contact tracing and case investigation procedures. Contact tracing and case investigation is no longer being conducted by NYS or Public Health. You will not receive a phone call from NYS or Public Health if you have tested positive as the transition to self-responsibility to isolate after receiving a positive test result has started.  Although guidance has been updated, the basics of staying home as a positive or close contact has remained the same.

Positive Test for COVID, regardless of vaccination status:

  • If you have tested positive, you will not receive a phone call from NYS or Public Health.
  • You will be self-responsible to print off your affirmation of isolation order if you need one to provide to your employer for the New York Paid Family Leave COVID 19. See below to print off this New York State document.
  • If you test positive using a home test, you can still report your positive home test to Public Health by clicking here
  • Call your Healthcare Provider to see if you are eligible for an oral anti-viral medication to help prevent severe illness.
  • Individuals who test positive must remain at home and isolate for five days starting the first day of your symptom onset or, if no symptoms, the day of your COVID test.
  • Notify your contacts of exposure: Include people who live in your home, and people who may have visited, school/work, or anyone providing in-home services.  Refer them to this website to obtain their quarantine order.
  • If you have no symptoms or symptoms are resolving at the end of day 5, your isolation can end. You must be able to wear a well-fitted mask around others for 5 additional days. If you cannot wear a mask or are moderately to severely immunocompromised, you need to stay in isolation for 5 more days (total of 10 days).
  • If your symptoms do not improve or worsen, please call your Healthcare Provider.  If it is a medical emergency, call 911.
