AIR QUALITY: HAZARDOUS
[YATES COUNTY, NY] – The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality advisory for multiple regions of New York State, including Central New York which encompasses the Finger Lakes Region. “Air quality in our region has significantly worsened over the last two days due to wildfires in Canada,” says Yates County Public Health Director Doug Sinclair, “Fires release large numbers of very small particles which can affect breathing and put stress on your heart. If you have asthma, COPD, or heart disease, this may cause worsening of your condition.”
The advisory will be in effect until 11:59 P.M. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. “The air quality in Yates County worsened, and this increased the risk of health effects for everyone,” says Sinclair, “Please consider avoiding or limiting outdoor activity today and monitor information on the website www.airnow.gov. This site has both current conditions and the forecast for tomorrow.”
