Breast Cancer Screening Day - Benton

Cancer is very common in the Finger Lakes Region - one in eight women will get breast cancer. Breast cancer can often be cured, but it is most curable when found early with a mammogram! 

Fifth Annual Sister's Day Event: 

When: Tuesday, September 26, from 9:30 AM - 3 PM                           

Where: Benton Fire Department at 932 Rte. 14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527               

What to expect:  You will check in for your screening within the fire hall just before your designated appointment timeAt noon, Victoria M. Howard, PA –C from the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology will present on gastrointestinal health and caring for your digestive tract through screenings and lifestyle. Refreshments will be provided. 

You must be 40 years of age or older to schedule your screening. If you have health insurance, your information will be asked when making your appointment. For women without health insurance, the screenings will be free to anyone living in the Finger Lakes Region. Women should be screened every year for breast cancer. 

Call 585-224-3070 to schedule your appointment. You will speak with staff from the Cancer Services Program.

A few things to note:

  • Only women work on the mobile screening unit.
  • Be sure you are not currently breastfeeding at the time of your screening, as this can make it difficult for doctors to find any cancers or abnormalities.  
  • Refrain from using any moisturizers or deodorants before your screening. 

Attention to men and women: Free at-home colon cancer screening kits will also be handed out to any men or women age 45 years and older, who do not have traditional health insurance. These screening kits are completed in the privacy of your own home. Colon cancer is a common disease in men and women that can be prevented with screenings. If you cannot make it to the screening day but would still like a kit, call 585-224-3070 to request a free kit be mailed to your home. All postage is paid for.
