Numerous Yates County legislators and other officials were at Welker Road in Barrington Wednesday for a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on the county’s $14 million broadband project. The project is being funded largely through a $10.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service “ReConnect” program. County Administrator Nonie Flynn and Legislature Chairwoman Leslie Church said this is the beginning of a 285-mile build to provide high-speed internet access to approximately 1,650 unserved households and businesses in the county. Construction is expected to continue into 2024.
