“Take-Back” Unused Drugs

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office will once again participate in conjunction with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) for the National Take-Back Day,

Saturday October 28, 2017 from 10a.m. to 2 p.m.

“I ask all Yates County residents to help reduce the availability of prescription (Rx) drugs in our community by safely disposing their unused, unwanted, and expired Rx drugs during this no cost event,” said Sheriff Ron Spike, “Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse and this is an opportunity for citizens to clean out their medicine cabinets and make sure that unused prescriptions don’t get misused, flushed into our water systems endangering our environment, or end up in the wrong hands.”

Residents can properly dispose of their expired or unused medications conveniently by bringing them to the rear of the Yates County Courthouse where Sheriff’s Officers will personally take them with no questions asked. This is a cost free event. They will thereafter be turned over to the DEA for proper disposal.

Other permanent drug drop-box locations are also available in Yates County at the Public Safety building in Penn Yan 24X7 and M-F at the Starkey Town Hall in Dundee, NY and the Rushville NY Village offices. These daily availability locations have been used by many.
