Influenza is widespread around New York State, with cases already here in Yates County.
*Steps you can take to help prevent flu illness for yourself and those you love:
- Get a flu shot. There is still time to help prevent flu by being vaccinated now.
- Wash your hands before and after touching objects others have touched and after coughing, sneezing, and wiping your nose. If you don’t have a tissue to catch a cough or sneeze, use the bend of your arm to prevent the spread of flu viruses.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth after handling objects others have touched.
- Stay home from work or school if you are sick.
- Avoid visiting people who may be vulnerable to illnesses if you have flu symptoms or may have been exposed to someone who is sick. You can be contagious and spread flu viruses through your breathing a day before you start to feel symptoms yourself.
- Contact your health care provider if you begin to have flu symptoms like fever/chills, headache, body aches, sore throat, runny nose, or fatigue.
